A Butlers' Guide to St. Patrick's Day in Buffalo
Guests of The Mansion on Delaware Avenue enjoy front row, fireside seats to one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country. The Mansion has celebrated 16 St. Patrick’s Days center-stage on Delaware Avenue in Allentown, in the heart of the city’s largest celebration. The Butlers are your city-knowledgeable source for everything St. Patrick’s Day in the Buffalo.
It’s March in Buffalo and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day is hardly a “springtime” event. Dress warm, dress in green, and preferably wear something with a Buffalo on it. We always recommend shopping locally, and for St. Patrick’s Day, Tara Gift Shoppe is where you’ll find some authentically Irish Buffalo outfitting.
Start your day with an Irish Coffee to warm up, wake up, and greet the day. We feel drinks always taste better when someone else makes them, so ask a Butler to ready your whiskey for you. When celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Buffalo, you’re also celebrating beer. Lucky for us, WNY is loaded with local craft breweries that are dropping new beer varieties for the holiday. Community Beer Works has released a sour ale, a gose IPA and a New England IPA, with a Woodruff Pun Intended Gose green(ish) beer on March 17th.
More new beers for St. Patrick’s Day 2018 include:
- Brickyard Brewing: Stevie Imperial Milk Stout (paired with cold press coffee)
- 42 North Brewing: Fenian Raid Irish Stout
- West Shore Brewing: Irish Red
- 12 Gats Brewing: Dry Irish Stout
- Woodcock Brothers: Reuben Wilson Red Ale
- New York Beer Project: Irish Destination Red IPA
Embracing the Old Neighborhood
The Old Neighborhood Parade takes place in South Buffalo’s Old First Ward, a neighborhood traditionally known for its large Irish-American community, the Saturday of St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Streets close at 11 am and the streets are lined with people, parties, and some of Buffalo’s most popular Irish taverns. Post parade destinations Gene McCarthy’s, Adolf’s, Blackthorn, Conlon’s, and Doc Sullivan’s.
Beginning at 2pm the Sunday of St. Patrick’s Day weekend, the Buffalo St. Patrick’s Day parade kicks off in Niagara Square and marches right past The Mansion down Delaware Avenue. Get ready for a large crowd, no cell service, and a lot of fun. We recommend posting up along the avenue early, dressing warm, and posting up near a bar where you can run in, grab a beer, and warm up.
Regardless of how you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in WNY, The Mansion on Delaware Avenue serves as home base for the holiday. Hotel guests enjoy complimentary European-style breakfast while The Butlers take care of your Irish coffee and beer selections before they drive you to and from the best taverns in the city. When the streets are shut down for the Sunday parade, sit fireside while they shake you a drink and enjoy the party from The Mansion’s front salons.
